Our Seniors - Our Mission
The Columbian Centre has been home for many seniors in Prince Albert since it was newly built in 1984. Our goal has always been to provide safe, comfortable, and affordable housing to those seniors sixty years of age and over. The local Knights of Columbus, the K.C. Centre P.A. Inc, and its Board of Directors, who own and operate the building, are completely engaged in this mission and will strive to vigorously continue this mandate well in to the foreseeable future.
In the early 1980s, local parish councils of the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic organization, discerned that the building of the Columbian Centre was necessary as a way to address the housing needs of low to medium income seniors. Although the complex is guided by Catholic principles, we warmly welcome seniors of all denominations and beliefs. We are situated close to most of the necessary services our tenants require. The Columbian Centre is within walking distance to shopping centres, churches, restaurants, the Heritage Centre, the farmer’s market, and the E.A. Rawlinson Centre for the Arts. It is conveniently located along a public transportation route — with a stop right out our front door. It is also located across the street from the Gateway Mall — a popular location to shop, go see friends for coffee, or just to take a walk around. The Columbian Centre has a strong faith base but is home to people of many different backgrounds. The tenants have a keen sense of community and work together very well. We have an amazing number of volunteer residents who work together to organize recreational or social events within the building. We encourage activities that keep our tenants active, productive, engaged, and charitable. Our Common Room and the tenant foyers on each level are often used as gathering places. The property also includes a private exterior yard to enjoy the green grass, flowers, and fresh air. Although the Columbian Centre is considered an independent living facility, many tenants require a little help from time to time. Many of our tenants are blessed with active support from family, and we enjoy working closely with our tenants’ caregivers. We also welcome additional aid to help our residents live the independent lifestyle they desire, such as Meals on Wheels, suite cleaning companies, social services, and various personal care companies. This is especially true if they do not have the family support other tenants may enjoy. We work closely with our Board, our service providers, and our public service, to keep our community safe, dynamic, and hospitable. We welcome all seniors and their families to come and see our complex for themselves, and we welcome your applications for long term, independent living here at the Columbian Centre! |

Testimonials
In my experience, I can say that in the more than twenty years that I have lived at the Columbian Centre, I have experienced a sincere and warm welcome. I have experienced good communications among the tenants, where everyone is looking out for and caring for each other. I have made many friends. I have enjoyed many activities and meals together, and all the meals the local Knights of Columbus gave us so generously on a regular basis. There is good security in the building. I have appreciated many years of support, companionship and security.

I enjoy my suite and like the friends I have made here.

I have lived here at the Columbian Centre for eight years. The Knights are very good to us. We have an excellent manager in the building. We only pay rent and the telephone bill. We have a washer and dryer on each floor for our free use. Our building has an elevator and only 53 units, eight on each floor. A big bonus is the city bus which stops at the front door, and every Tuesday, a bus picks us up to take us shopping at the Co-op.

The Columbian Centre has been a home for many seniors since 1984. It is a warm and caring place to live. We are treated extremely well. Rent is reasonable and we have many perks as a resident here. The apartments are updated and well kept. We are close to the Cathedral, mall, and we have a weekly Mass here. We have front door bus service. We have washing facilities and garbage disposal on each floor. We have a recreation room with many activities. The residents use it often. The staff is always ready to help us with our repairs and needs quickly. The Knights of Columbus supply us with many meals and treat us all with respect. Our security in the building makes us feel safe. We are made to feel like a close knit family. This is our home and we love it!

We moved in to the Columbian Centre two years ago and it feels very much like home. Prior to Covid 19, the Columbian Centre was a very vibrant and active senior centre, which most of us enjoyed. For example, we had bingos once a week, card parties, shuffleboard, bowling, coffee sessions and more, in our common room which is bright and roomy. We also can book the common room for our own private family gatherings for free. For special occasions, the Columbian Centre offers other services such as a shuttle bus for those who want to go shopping at the Co-op Store. We are also very fortunate to have the celebration of the Mass every Saturday at 4 PM. We have made new friends here, but we enjoy the privacy of our own bright, comfortable suite which has become home to us!

I’ve been a resident here for 27 years now and I’ve enjoyed my stay here. The building is kept clean at all times and is bright in the hallways. We have an elevator that is new, large, and reliable. The residents here are very pleasant and we check up on one another often to make sure everyone is up and about. I would recommend the Columbian Centre and would welcome anyone who moved in.

I am a resident of the K.C. Centre and have been for 30 years. Kudos to the Knights of Columbus for providing a quiet, caring, and secure building for seniors to call home.

"Have you ever thought of moving back to PA?" A husband’s friend phoned us one afternoon. My husband and I had just recently been talking about moving back to Prince Albert! "Have you ever thought about the Columbian Centre in PA?" He suggested. We hadn’t, but contacted them the next day, and shortly after, we were in town looking at an available two-bedroom suite. We took it immediately after seeing it and moved in a month later.
After we moved in, we felt completely at home and very comfortable. It is quiet, well built, well designed, open, and airy. The staff and tenants are very helpful and friendly. The view out my windows is excellent and I enjoy watching the trains and traffic going by. This is a very pleasant place.
